A forest retreat · Jim Corbett, Uttarakhand

Return to Yourself

Four days among the sal forests of Jim Corbett, to slow down and come home to yourself.

Life has a way of becoming a list of things to get through. Somewhere in it we stop asking the simplest question: how am I, really? This retreat is a pause to ask it again. Over four unhurried days we walk among trees, breathe, sit in silence, write, make music around a fire, and keep company with a small circle of fellow Yatri. Nothing here is about becoming someone new. It is about meeting the person who was there all along.

Who it is for

Anyone seeking peace, clarity and a deeper connection with themselves. You do not need any experience of yoga or meditation, and guests visiting India for the first time are very welcome: every practice is explained as we go. It may be for you if you are:

  • Tired in the mind, after a long stretch of doing
  • Carrying more feeling than you have had time for
  • Longing for inner peace
  • Looking for clarity about what comes next
  • Ready to pause before the next season begins
  • Wanting real company, with phones put away

The practices, and their roots

vana-dhyana

Forest walk

Meditation among trees (vana means forest, dhyana means meditation). A slow, mindful forest trail, time simply spent in prakriti, the natural world.

asana and pranayama

Yoga

Gentle postures and breath to wake the body, held at a pace anyone can follow.

dhyana

Meditation

Guided sittings that settle the mind and bring it back to the present moment.

svadhyaya

Guided journaling

Svadhyaya means self-study. Prompts and quiet reflection to understand yourself a little better.

nada

Sound

Nada is sacred sound. Bowls and gentle vibration to rest the body and quiet the mind.

yantra and mandala

Mandala art

Drawing a mandala slowly, an old way of gathering the attention into one point.

satsang

Sharing circle

Satsang means being in good company. A circle to listen and, if you wish, to speak from the heart. Nobody has to share.

an agni evening

Bonfire and music

An evening around the fire, agni, with music, laughter and unhurried conversation under the stars.

mauna

Reflection time

Mauna is silence. Unscheduled hours to simply be, with yourself and with the forest.

seva and sangha

Getting to know each other

Light ice-breakers and playful activities on the first day, and a facilitator who holds the group throughout.

Care in the circle

Care through the whole of it

A Care Lead, a trained counsellor, is with the group throughout and has no other duty. If anyone feels overwhelmed, the Care Lead sits with them quietly, a little apart, while the facilitator holds the circle. There is no pressure to rejoin.

These are practices of reflection, not therapy, and we say so to the group. Every practice is optional; resting and watching is a full part of the circle.

The circle’s agreements

“What’s shared in this circle stays in this circle. We listen without judgment, offer no unsolicited advice, and don’t try to fix one another.”

Nobody is asked to share anything personal aloud. Anything you write stays yours.

Before you join, a gentle health note. When you reserve, we’ll ask a few confidential questions so we can support you well: about asthma or breathing difficulties, panic or anxiety, a history of trauma, bipolar disorder or psychosis, a recent bereavement or suicide attempt, current medication, and sensitivity to smoke or incense. Answers are kept private and reviewed by a professional. Please don’t write them on this site; we ask privately once you reserve.

Joining from abroad

In what language are the sessions held?

Tell us the language you are most comfortable in when you reserve, and we will confirm how the facilitator will guide your group. Sanskrit words are explained as we go. If you are new to these practices, or to India, say so and we will look after you.

Do you arrange visas?

No. Visas and travel to India are your own responsibility. We are happy to answer questions about the day itself.

How do I pay from abroad?

International cards and bank transfer are accepted. The exact way to pay is confirmed with you on WhatsApp or email when your place is confirmed. Prices are charged in INR.
